The story is based on a true incident at the Indian National Army. Shekhar (Ashok Kumar) falls in love with Lilly DSouza (Nalini Jayawant), but their relationship is short-lived when she betrays him. As the Indian freedom struggle intensifies, wars become more frequent. Lilly and her sister are caught spying on the Indian army and are sentenced to a harsh penalty. Subash Chandra Bose intervenes and requests that they instead spy on the British army. Meanwhile, Ashok Kumar is sent off to fight in a major battle. Will they reunite or will they perish in the chaos of war? This is the ultimate question that drives the story forward.
